Another LBN Day
Hi everyone, I'm back! As you guys know, the last session was a huge blast! I was so glad that it seems like we are FINALLY on track, but at the same time, I'm afraid that I'll be a disappointment if I can't keep it up for today's session. Nevertheless, I headed into the session, prepared and ready to face whatever challenge pops up today. Now let's head to my journal.

Journal #10- Nov. 9 2020
Today's session actually went alright! I was a tad bit nervous in the beginning, but the feeling went away as Karl entered the breakout room. We talked about the cold weather, and I'm so grateful that he seems more comfortable with me now! He said he's wearing a t-shirt and it's not too cold at home, so I showed him that I'm freezing and wearing a hoodie. Apparently his t-shirt had a hood and we somehow ended up both putting on our hood. I wasn't exactly sure why he looked so excited, but it was really cute of him and his positive energy passed on to me :)We got through a consonant blend worksheet and some s-blend books. We also briefly looked at long A sounds. Like last time, he could correct his own mistake in the worksheet at the end which is great! I think he's familiar with the long A sound, so I believe that we can move through it really quickly. During the reading, he kept pronouncing the name of the dog in the story incorrectly. It should have been "Rusty", but he said "Roosty".

I explained that it's a short u (uh) sound not a long u (yoo) sound, so it should be Rusty. He continued saying it wrong, but it's alright! Every time he says it wrong, I'll stop him and ask if he remembers this word. I'll also have him reread that sentence. After correcting him 5 to 7 times, he started remembering. He would say it wrong, then quickly correct himself. I learned that repetition is how he learns best. I also realized that his reading is less jerky compared to before. There are quite a few words that he doesn't know, so I considered bringing him a reading level down before. However, I think his comprehension is pretty good, so I would like to continue trying this level first.
Another thing I learned is that you really need to use your "acting" and body language to get your explanations across. He had trouble with the word "whine" and although I did have an explanation, Margaret wiggled her body and changed her voice to resemble more like a whiny child. She even went as far as asking him how a dog whines and how a person whines. That made him more lively and engaged. On a positive note, we even managed to get through the session without a break!
Anddd that pretty much concludes my session today. It's fairly short, but that's because it went fairly smoothly! There won't be a post on Wednesday because it will be Remembrance Day, so bye for now!
