IT'S NOVEMBER (OMG)

It's November everyone!

I can't believe how fast time goes. We are less than 2 full months away from 2021… that sounds frightening because it's my graduation year 😬. Time sure does fly by! Anyways, let's have a recap of the problems that weren't solved last time.

Problems: ❗❓

  • He was bored with my new strategies

  • Simple sentences

Solutions:

  • Ask guidance questions and ask buddy to fix the sentence he made by adding the answer from the guidance questions

  • Modify the whiteboard strategy, put DIFFERENT words on the whiteboard rather than the SAME as a review of new vocab

Now, I'll get started with today's journal!

Journal #8- Nov. 2, 2020

The first thing I did was review the difficult words with the modified whiteboard method. I placed different words in multiple colours and asked him to read each word as my cursor approached them. He read each word correctly!! YAY! πŸ₯³His mom never replied to my email, but maybe she did see it and he practiced with the Quizlet! However, he read some simpler words incorrectly. I think that he just saw the word and assumed it's another word he knows. We went through the short vowels worksheet quickly. Furthermore, I managed to only explain one of the meanings of "position", and I wasn't very clear with the explanation either. Therefore, Margaret insisted teaching another meaning (the meaning that pertains to the context of the book, I should have taught this meaning to be honest). She provided many examples of "position" and guided him creating a sentence.

Something I was impressed with was that she wouldn't be satisfied by a simple sentence. She asked for more detail and told him to fix the sentence by adding the detail to it.

Another rather subtle but big change that I made starting this session was that I used an online pdf editor to annotate on the documents. Previously, I used the annotate function on Zoom to draw on the book. However, that function lets me draw on the screen not on the document itself. Therefore, the circles and arrows that I draw stay in the same place when I scroll up. That means that I have to erase all my markings every time I leave that specific part of the page. It's immensely time-consuming! It's also time-consuming to stop screen-sharing every time I need to show another document. Whereas if I use pdf editors on several tabs, I can stay on Chrome and simply move from tab to team rather than going to different Windows. It's not convenient as well to mark worksheet answers because I have to erase the answers before I can scroll down to the answer key. In conclusion, this change makes a huge difference in the efficiency of my sessions!

Problems: ❗❓

  • He reads simple words wrong

  • Sometimes assumes a word to be another word without reading it carefully

  • Missed the real definition of a new vocabulary and difficulty explaining them properly

Today's blog is quite short, but hopefully you'll appreciate the fact that I have less to rant about today (Hehe)! Bye for now!
